Relationships

Was it really just Valentine’s Day?

I can’t believe that we are almost in March, but I am super excited since being closer to spring means being closer to warm weather!! Ya girl is freezing in Chicago, but I am getting through it as difficult as it might be. This time of year is especially hard for people who love spending time with friends, but hate going out because of the weather. The weather is absolutely terrible here! We just survived the Polar Vortex, which if you all don’t know that is, is was the second coldest day in Chicago history and the temperature here was colder than Antarctica!! Everything was shutdown and it takes so much to close things here. I unfortunately had to go outside to take my dog out and it was unbearable. Apparently, if you spent more than 10-15 minutes outside without being covered then you could get frostbite. Needless to say I was dying taking my dog out, but it had to be done, haha.

Anyway, this cold weather also makes you want to stay at home and just go out when it’s necessary. However, we are social beings and we are drawn to want to spend time with people, especially people we like. Unfortunately, many people like me don’t have people to spend time with since we don’t have a significant other. We are especially aware of this on Valentine’s Day. I’ve never really been fond of this holiday because I’ve never been in relationship to celebrate the day. In addition, now that social media (especially Instagram) is so popular SO many people flaunt their relationships non-stop during this day. Now naturally I am salty when people show off their relationships, but when they do this on Valentine’s Day I am especially annoyed. Like I get it, you love your girlfriend/boyfriend but you don’t have to go over-the-top. But don’t hold me to this statement when I eventually get a boyfriend because best believe I will be flaunting my man, haha. People will ask couples what they have planned for this holiday and it usually ranges from something casual to something super elaborate. For single people, it’s just another regular day. I went to class, came home, and then I had to work an event for this new part-time job that I have. If I didn’t go to this event I probably would’ve been watching re-reruns of SVU and gone to sleep at 8:30 p.m. because that’s what my usual night looks like, which I am not ashamed of, haha.

Roses from my dad for Valentine’s Day!

The positive thing that has come from Valentine’s Day is the emphasis on Galentine’s! I really love this because it’s away to celebrate your friends and love even if you don’t have a significant other. Again unfortunately, I wasn’t able to spend time with my friends because they were busy and I don’t have a solid group of friends here yet. So not being able to celebrate Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day was kind of a bummer, but it just allowed me to do some self-reflection. As you all may know I love music and going to concerts so I thought I’d put together a playlist for self-love, heartbreak, and everything in between that you can listen to even when it’s not Valentine’s Day. This playlist will be available on Apple Music, but I will post the list here first. I hope y’all enjoy!!
